TALLADEGA - Funeral services for Melvin "Brother" Richardson, 63, will be Saturday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, Dr. Horace Patterson, Pastor. The Rev. Eric Richardson, the Rev. John Ragland Jr., the Rev. Brentic Richardson, and the Rev. Isaac Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Morning Star Cemetery, Talladega. Mr. Richardson will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service. The family will line up at Sunrise Apartments, No. 75 on Broadway Avenue.

Mr. Richardson died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, at Coosa Valley Medical Center. He was a 1964 graduate of R. R. Moten High School and attended Nunnelley Community College, retired from the Anniston Army Depot as a crane operator, member of Morning Star Baptist Church, and a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie and Minnie Richardson; brothers, Langford, Ollie and S.T. Richardson.

Survivors are daughters, Sylvia Garrett and Melody (Jerry) Best both of Talladega; sons, Anthony Richardson and Melvin Richardson both of Talladega; sisters, Jessie Butler, Mary Menefield, Laura Welch all of Talladega, Lessie Simmons of Anniston, Helen (James) McGhee of Clayton, and Dorothy Joshua of Detroit, Mich.; brother, Homer (Ola) Richardson of Decatur, Ga.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
