Paul Michael
(Deceased 3/27/2020)
Veteran of
"SVC" Battery,
1/83rd Artillery
1967-1968.
Paul Y. Michael, age
72, passed away peacefully on March 27,
2020. He was born in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania to Marvin and Merle Michael and
the family moved to Bloomington, Indiana
when he was 10 years old. Paul remained
lifelong friends with the 5th grade
classmates he met that year at University
Elementary School, going on to graduate
together as University High School's class
of 1965.
At age 20, Paul served in the US Army
including a tour in Vietnam. Upon his
return, Paul enrolled at Indiana University
and graduated in 1972 with a degree in
Business Administration. Much of his career
was spent as a clothing buyer for major
department stores. He had a meticulous and
commercial eye for discovering the next big
trends in both men's & women's fashion, as
well as interior design.
Paul married Jeanine in 1983 and spent the
first several years of marriage taking
adventurous road trips around the U.S. In
1989, Paul accepted a job with Gilmore's in
Kalamazoo where he and Jeanine settled down
with their young family. His two daughters
Claire (born 1988) and Ally (born 1990) whom
he treasured dearly were his greatest joys
in life. He could always be found cheering
loudly at their soccer games, serving
proudly on the PTA, taking family trips to
Lake Michigan, and singing along to the Cool
101 oldies with his girls. He also enjoyed
gardening, reading, and staying up to date
on all developments in the world of sports,
having been an IU and Michigan State fan.
Everyone who knew Paul or crossed his path,
even if it were brief, will remember his
kind and compassionate spirit, witty sense
of humor, and storytelling abilities.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his beloved daughters
Claire and Ally Michael, and their mother
Jeanine (Burns) Michael; his brother Richard
M. Michael (Gail); his sister Miriam
Michael; and his niece and nephew Marla
Michael and Todd Michael. Paul was also a
proud uncle to 15 nieces and nephews from
the Burns family.
A celebration of life will be held at a
later date. May Paul be at peace and in
God's hands eternally, or as Paul would say,
"relaxing at his new address."
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Paul's
memory may be directed to Ministry with
Community.
