1. Request for information - In the latest Eyes & Ears Newsletter is a photo sent in by one of our Aussie mates, John Blake. In that photo is a bunch of American's probably at Nui Dat circa 1966-1967. If anyone can name those in the photo let me know so I can update Paul Dickson the E&E Editor. Here is that photo. 2. Request for information - Rex Hon (66-67) is trying to find out who gave him a Vung Tau T-shirt at the Branson Reunion. Rex would like to send a thank you but lost his note on who gave it to him. Here is a photo of it.
3. Support Requested - I mentioned a while back the health problems that Don (Nod) Donaldson, one of our Kiwi mates, has been having. Well, I just got an update from Pat Duggan and Nod is still having a rough go of it. If anyone missed sending Nod a word of encouragement before, please consider doing so. His contact info is on the Roster. 4. New Email Address -Andy Gambill (71) asks us to use his preferred email address. It can be found on the Roster. 5. Unit Merchandise - See section below. 6. Guestbook Comment - This comment was just posted on the our website Guestbook. Do any of you recall this episode?"My name is Wayne Chalker (formally 585th Trans. Co. (Medium Trk. Cargo). We were stationed at Gia Le Combat Base. On or about 16April1968, eight members of our company volunteered to bring 175mm barrels, projo's, and black powder to 1/83rd at FB Bastogne. I think we were the first tractor-trailer unit to attempt a resupply of Bastogne. I carried 3-175mm barrels along with another driver. The remaining six trucks hauled ammo. Before turning off Rt. 547 and heading up to Bastogne, we were met with an armor unit comprising of tanks and APC's. This armor was interspersed between our trucks. We then headed up to Bastogne but not before being hit with RPG's and small arms. Without the armor, I don't think we would have made it. After our arrival at Bastogne, we were told the road was closed and we had to stay until it was re-opened; that turned out to be a week. We parked our tractor-trailers under some of your guns and tried to sleep-that didn't work out too well. On the way out about 6 days later, we were again hit with RPG's and small arms-thank God for all that armor again. I was wondering if any of you guys might remember us bringing the barrels and ammo to you during that week in April '68." ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Be sure to let me know what is going on in your life so we can share it with everyone in this section. 1/83rd Roster |
Review your entry on the website Roster and let me know if any changes are necessary. If your email stops working, I cannot reach you if you have incomplete contact details on the roster. |
Missing members of the 1/83rd |
Help us find those former 83rd members who haven't
found us yet!! I am sure that each of us has someone they would really like to reconnect with. If we all pitch in, we may find many more of our old buddies. Here are some ways to do that: 1. If you are in contact or have contact info for any 1/83rd guys please contact them and tell them about our group or at least tell me and I will contact them. 2. Look through the roster on the website and if you know of others who are not listed, let me know who they are. Also, if you see any incorrect or missing info (including your own entry) let me know. 3. If you have copies of old orders tucked away someplace, send me a copy so I can make sure those names are on the roster. 4. Sometimes all it takes is a name and location and we can find someone but the more details we know the better our chances. |

Advisory |
If you get an email from and it has a website link
included anywhere within the email, most times you should be able to just click
on the link and you will be taken to the website. Sometimes however, the link
will not work because, in sending you the email, the link is deactivated
although it is still usable. If this should happen, another way to use the link
is to copy and paste it into the address line on your browser. Please be sure to
let me know if you have any questions on this. Please make sure that your email system allows emails to be received from both of my email addresses, bill_t_08012@yahoo.com and artillery_83rd@yahoo.com Please note that there are no blank spaces in email addresses.
