Jay Wayne Wright (Deceased 11/12/2020) Veteran of "B" Battery, 1/83rd Artillery 1966-67. Jay Wayne Wright, age 77, of Boaz, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Marshall Medical Center South. His funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, November 16, 2020 at Albertville Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Snead Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Jason Talton and Rev. Ken Cooper will officiate. Pallbearers will be his nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Rex Umphrey, John Umphrey and Larry Wright. Visitation will be before the service from 11:30 until 1. Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Dillard D. Wright, mother, Alice Molly Nix Wright, brother, Dennis Wright, sister-in-law, Florence Wright and sisters, Virgie May Wright and Lettie Gillilan. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Wright, son, Kenneth Wayne Wright, daughter, Charlene Edwina Wright, grandsons, Tristin Wayne Wright and Skip Ray Melton, IV, granddaughters, Sonya Wright, Charlene Theresa Melton and Dorothy Jean Melton, great-grandsons, Kaden Wright and Liam Wright, special niece “sister”, Betty Wright. He was a loving and caring husband to Mary Ann for 59 years. He was the best dad in the world in his children’s eyes and the best papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was deeply loved by his church family, neighbors and friends. He enjoyed his garden, fishing, spending time outdoors, Alabama football “Roll Tide” and spending time with his family. He went to school in Altoona, Snead State Junior College and Alabama Technical College. He worked at Goldkist, Alabama Recon, and retired from Etowah County Sheriffs department where he was a dispatcher for 23 years. He was a veteran; he served his country in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968. Our hearts are breaking because his death was unexpected and tragic; he lost his life due to Covid 19. He will be missed by all who knew him.
